How much does crawl space encapsulation cost in Jacksonville?

Is crawl space encapsulation worth it in Florida?
For most crawlspaces here, yes. Florida humidity does not take a season off, so a vented crawlspace keeps feeding moisture to the floor framing, the insulation and the air that rises into the house. A sealed, conditioned crawlspace stops that at the source, which costs less than replacing rotted sills and joists later. If yours is dry and healthy, the inspection will tell you that too.
Can you encapsulate a crawlspace in a flood zone?
Only around its flood openings. In a mapped flood hazard area, Florida’s code requires flood openings in the walls around a crawlspace (section R408.7), and any cover or device on them has to let floodwater flow in and out automatically (section R322.2.2). Those openings cannot simply be blocked, so check the flood zone before any vent is sealed.
Will encapsulation lower my energy bills?
It usually helps, but how much depends on the house, so no honest contractor promises a number. Ductwork and floors over a sealed, dry crawlspace sit in drier air instead of muggy outside air, so the air conditioning has less moisture to fight. You are more likely to notice it first as a house that feels drier at floor level.
How do I know the encapsulation is working?
By the numbers. Humidity is measured and verified before the job is finished, and the dehumidifier shows its reading, so you can watch it hold the space dry through a Florida summer. A musty smell that fades and a liner with no water on it are the other signs.
